A new Hollywood comedy may be coming soon, but what do we know about the film?
The list of nominees was unveiled today by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), and it includes films from the likes of David Hasselhoff, Zach Galifianakis, Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, and John Travolta.
Here’s what we know so far about the nominees, along with what the HFPA says we should expect to see in the future.
Who’s on the list?
Hollywood Foreign Producers Association (HFPA) member producers of “American Honey” are nominated in this year’s list of “Best Animated Films.”
They include “Paddington,” “Rescue Me,” “The Muppets,” “American Idol,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” and “Lovin’ It.”
“Pads,” from the producers of the critically acclaimed “Puppets” movie, is also nominated.
Other nominees include “Mulan,” “Zootopia,” “Frozen,” “Sailor Moon: The Last Movie,” “A Mighty Wind,” “Gravity,” “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” and the upcoming “Tangled.”
“The Legend of Tarzan” is also included.
The nominees are: “Daredevil,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” “Walt Disney Animation Studios,” “Logan,” “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation,” “Toy Story 4,” “Cars 3,” “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” “Aladdin,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” “X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Iron Man 3,” and more.
The HFPSAA said the nominations were not the first time that nominees had been announced, and they were just the first batch.
“In previous years, nominees have been announced and released in advance, with nominations from other popular franchises that are also represented on this list,” the group wrote.
“We have previously announced that nominees for the 2018-19 Academy Awards will be announced on December 8, 2018.
However, it has been determined that we need to wait until the Academy Awards to announce nominees for 2019-20, and this has been delayed to 2018-2019.”
Is it possible that the “Best Movie” list is for next year’s Oscars?
“The Academy Awards have always been a celebration of the work of the best independent film and television productions.
The 2018-20 list is the result of an expanded approach to recognizing outstanding achievements by our members, who are not only producing the best movies but also those which make us proud to be a part of the industry,” the HFSAA said in a statement.
“A final list will be released on December 7, 2018, at which point the nominations will be available to members.”
So if the nominations don’t come out in the next few months, then “The Oscars will not be for next years Oscar Awards,” the organization added.
But we know that they’re going to be in Los Angeles on December 10, 2019, and we’re definitely going to see them at least once.
Who else is nominated?
“Dances with Wolves” and “Babylon 5: The Video Game” are also nominated, along the lines of the “Babel” and the “Liv and Maddie” films.
“Babs,” “Love,” “Nashville,” and some others are also eligible.
“Trouble,” “My Favorite Martian,” “Beasts of No Nation,” and others are nominated.
“Halo” and others also make the cut.
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Spider Man 3” and other Marvel films are also included, along side the likes “Captain America: Civil War,” “Captain Marvel,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” and a few others.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is nominated.
The “Curse of the Black Queen” is a finalist.
Which of these are you hoping to see on the Oscar stage?
“Hollywood has been so focused on producing big-budget superhero films for decades that it’s not surprising that we see the Oscars as a celebration,” the Hollywood Reporter said in an editorial.
“And while we’re certainly excited to see the films on this year and beyond, it’s also true that the Academy Award nominations are meant to serve as a way to celebrate the work and talents of our members and to honor the hard work that goes into producing the world’s most successful movies.”
