With the holiday season drawing to a close, dogpatchers are once again finding themselves in a dog park and having their treats prepared.
This time, though, they’ve gone for the dogpatch theme and are using ingredients from local dog shops and farmers.
A post shared by dogpatch (@dogpatch) on Mar 17, 2019 at 5:04pm PDT Dogpatch owner James Hargrove told ABC Radio Hobart that he was inspired to start the business after reading an article about how dogs were being raised for the first time.
“I wanted to create something that was a bit more practical and practical, so I thought, let’s create a little bit of a dogpark, a little lot of food, some toys, so that people could come out and enjoy the experience.”
Mr Hargreaves first dog park opened in September 2019, with a small group of volunteers, and the restaurant has since grown to become one of Hobart’s busiest.
He said he had been inspired by the dog parks of New Zealand, and wanted to recreate the same experience in Hobart.
Dog parks have become a popular way to spend time with dogs, but Mr Hargrell believes that his concept can bring about a positive change in the way people interact with dogs.
“[We’re] going to bring the dogs together and have a really good time with the people, and not just people walking around the park,” he said.
Horseracing and dog parks are also popular activities for dogs, with Hobart having more than 1,000 dog parks, with more than half of them catering for a variety of breeds.
However, some dog parks still only allow children to play in a small area, with some opting for a more private experience.
Mr Hagerrell said he was happy to have a small space to accommodate his dog, but he hoped that it would also provide some positive change for people.
